Cove Brook Floods Again
October 2nd, 2009 by craigcardCove Brook which runs through Mayfield ward burst its banks again during the heavy rain storm two weeks ago. Local Councillors were monitering the scene from 6pm till almost midnight with residents. Sand bags were delivered and local councillor (Craig Card) helped residents with moving sandbags to help protect some homes. They were out again the following morning checking on the situation in the Brook, thankfully the water was starting to recede.
On the 1st October environment agency officials met with council officers at the brook to review the problem. Shortly we hope hear proposals from the environment agency to help resolve the problem.
500 people attend event at Cove Brook

The aim was to introduce local people to this area, and to show how the group are trying to improve it for both people and wildlife. The haymaking, using a heavy horse and sled to remove the hay from the meadow, was a great crowd puller, highlighting the regular grass cutting needed to bring rank grassland back to meadowland. This will encourage the growth of native wild flowers which, in turn, will bring in bees, butterflies and other wildlife.
