Battle to Prevent Lorry Invasion

Local Liberal Democrats attended the Public meeting of the Pyestock Enquiry in Hart along with Hundreds of Resident’s.

Representatives of the anti-depot campaign group ‘SPLAT’ told the inquiry that the development would         increase noise and traffic congestion, harm wildlife, reduced air quality and could affect people’s health.

The inquiry has now ended. A Liberal Democrat spokesperson said, “A development of this scale really could have a very significant effect on the area. We believe less damaging ways could be found to create jobs and decontaminate the site.”

Liberal Democrats’ survey on the future of Farnborough Airfield.

January 19th, 2009 by craigcard

The response has so far been excellent - out of 2,000 surveys distributed to residents, we have received over 400 replies, and more are coming back every day.

The feedback confirms that many residents in this Rushmoor suffer disturbance as a result of flights in and out of the Airfield. A majority (51%) of those responding would prefer no increase in flights. Of the remainder, 24% are prepared to see a modest increase, 19% want a reduction, and only 5% are willing to allow TAG to have as many flights as they want.

The Liberal Democrats are opposed to any further development or increase in flights at Farnborough Airfield that would adversely affect public safety or quality of life, but support the continued provision of “high-end” business flying at the airfield.

And 80% of those who commented on our policy statement were broadly supportive, with the rest split fairly equally between those wanting stricter limits on flights and those who preferred a more lenient approach.

We will be using the replies to help us develop a more detailed plan. And when TAG produces its proposals, we challenge them if they do not respect the interests of local people.
