Planning permission has been granted by Rushmoor Council for a telephone mast on the corner of Chapel Lane and Fernhill Road. Your Mayfield Councillors objected against this proposal which would be situated in a highly populated area which includes a church and local activity groups meeting hall. The vote was 4 to 3 in favour of the application.
Charlie Fraser-Fleming put forward a motion in support of the 10:10 international campaign to cut carbon emmisions by 10% in 2010.
Labour councillors supported the motion but after a long debate the motion was defeted by the Conservative Councillors.
Neville Dewey is still currently in hospital recovering from his recent accident. He is feeling more cheerful and hopes to allowed out of hospital by the end of the year. He will then have some months of rehabillating from his leg injury. He is receiving his local council briefings and is keeping up to date with local issues.
On the 12th November the Mayfield Community Safety Partnership held their first meeting. It involved local residents, your Mayfield Councillors, local police and other parties. A well attended meeting raised many different concerns. These included anti-social behaviour, graffiti and car parking issues. These will be taken forward and some answers on solving these will be brought to the next meeting hopefully in February 2010.
Contrary to what has been reported in the local newspapers in a recent planning meeting I voted against the planning application to increase flights in Farnborough to 50,000.
I asked a question on the application before the vote to reduce the number of flights. I asked if the recommendations could be changed to reduce the number of weekend flights in particular, but, this was not allowed. Unfortunately, I feel that applicant will still though take their application to appeal.
Councillor Neville Dewey has had a severe accident he is currently in hospital with a broken leg in three places. He will not be seen on the streets for some time while he recovers from his injuries. He insists though he will be keeping up to date on matters in Mayfield. He can be contacted still via his email. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
Following discussions with your local councillors, council officials and the environment agency work on the brook has started. A clear channel between Mayfield road and the bridge at Moor park has been created.
Cove Brook which runs through Mayfield ward burst its banks again during the heavy rain storm two weeks ago. Local Councillors were monitering the scene from 6pm till almost midnight with residents. Sand bags were delivered and local councillor (Craig Card) helped residents with moving sandbags to help protect some homes. They were out again the following morning checking on the situation in the Brook, thankfully the water was starting to recede.
On the 1st October environment agency officials met with council officers at the brook to review the problem. Shortly we hope hear proposals from the environment agency to help resolve the problem.
Your Liberal Democrat Mayfield Councillors including myself are working with our local police to set up quarterly open meetings for residents to discuss your policing priorities in Mayfield ward. We hope the first meeting will take place in November. Please come and talk to Councillors, Police and others in setting priorities for the next three months. This will be an ongoing event where we hope many of the small issues that effect our area can be dealt with. But this is only likely to happen if residents come and talk to us. Watch this space for confirmation of date, which I hope to have in the next ten days.
